Hill City features Trees and Trains all through December at the SD Railroad Museum. Every Saturday look for the Olde Tyme HIll City Christmas Activities. And don’t miss the 1880 Train Holiday Express through Dec. 23rd at 222 Railroad Avenue You will travel from Hill City to the North Pole where Santa will be waiting to board the train. Each child will get the chance to meet Santa and receive a small Christmas gift. Dec 9 and 16 enjoy the adult “spiked” version of the trip in an adult only atmosphere and spiked cocoa.

In Hot Springs don’t miss the downtown cookie cruise Dec 1 from 4-7 pm followed by the Journey of Lights parade and tree lighting from 5:30 to 9 pm. Saturday enjoy the Marketplace Christmas in the Hill
In Wall there will be hay rides and caroling to spread Christmas cheer on December 10, 1pm – 3pm

Sturgis holds it’s 35 Festival of the Trees Vintage Holiday Celebration. Open to the public starting Thursday, November 30th through Saturday, December 2nd, 2017 with decorated trees, wreaths, and vintage items for live and silent auction. Enjoy free hot chocolate, apple cider, music, and holiday treats followed by the Parade of lights at 6 pm Friday Dec. 1. Saturday Dec 2, run the 5K/10K Frostival registration starts at 7:30 am. Scrooge Night Dec 21, featuring holiday shopping deals throughout town. Dec 10th enjoy the 39th annual Community Christmas Concert featuring Church choirs from Sturgis and Whitewood 2 pm at Sturgis Community Center Theater.

In Spearfish don’t miss the 24th annual Holiday high tea December 09, 2017 1:00pm – 2:30pm at The Matthews Opera House & Art Center. Artists of the Black Hills Great Small Works Exhibit and Reception runs through Dec. 31st, 2017 Store Hours: Mon-Sat 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Sun 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. A Green Dolphin Jazzy Christmas Concert at The Matthews Opera House in Spearfish December 15, 2017 7:30pm – 9:30pm featuring traditional holiday jazz, plus other popular jazz standards

In Custer, don’t miss the 28th annual Custer Christmas Parade Dec 2, 5:30 pm downtown. And, it’s Christmas tree permit season, through Dec 18th you can obtain a permit and cut down your own ponderosa pine, spruce or juniper tree in the Black Hills National Forest. Permits can be obtained at all National Forest Service offices.

In Rapid City, you’ll want to visit Storybook Island Christmas Night of Lights, Dec 1-3. You’ll find all of your favorite storybook characters dressed up in lights for the holiday season. Saturday Art Adventures begin Dec 9th from 1-3pm with the annual make-and-take gingerbread house craft at the Dahl! The Holiday Dreams annual Winter Ice Show will take place on Dec. 8 and 9 at the Roosevelt Park Ice Arena and December 15 the Main Street Square ice rink hosts a party for teens, complete with lights and music. More skating Dec 23 with skates and a movie on a big screen from 5-7 pm. And spend the last night of the year skating again from 5-9 pm. On Dec 26-31 Storybook Island Christmas Nights of Light, Storybook Island gets turned into a winter wonderland.

Deadwood’s Community Holiday Celebration takes place Dec. 1 with carolers, ornament making, tree lighting, bonfire, s’mores and a visit from Santa. Don’t miss Festive Fridays the first three Friday’s of December. Celebrate the holidays with age-old traditions, as children will make craft projects including ornaments, a pine cone tree, and stockings. For students in grades K-6 at Homestake Adams Research and Cultural Center; 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m, Deadwood is also the place to ring in 2018 The Main Street of Historic Deadwood comes alive as people celebrate the coming of a new year. Local businesses feature specials to make the celebration a wonderful one. At midnight, say goodbye to 2017 by watching the ball drop above the Historic Franklin Hotel veranda.

In Lead, the Festival of Trees at the Historic Homestake Opera House keep your dollars local and shop the Sled Haus Annual Christmas Market December 9, from 1:00 – 6:00 PM. Don’t miss the 8th annual Black Hills Cowboy Christmas. The popular Black Hills Cowboy Christmas concerts and dance will feature more than a dozen regional and state-wide performers this year and will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at the Historic Homestake Opera House located at 313 West Main Street. And, the snowmobile trails open Dec 15th and based on trail conditions stay open through March 31.
